   Mennonite and Brethren Marriage Encounter

Mennonite and Brethren Marriage Encounter is an invitation to come away from the world, to spend a weekend focusing on your spouse, working towards God’s ideal for marriage. It takes couples beyond the frustrations, disappointments, and loneliness that can be a part of everyday life, to a better understanding and deeper love for each other. Typically, couples seek help for marriage problems far too late. Marriage Encounter is great preventative maintenance.

Mennonite and Brethren Marriage Encounter Eastern Canada weekends happen twice a year, spring and fall. Watch for our mailings to your congregation or visit

Spiritual Directors Mennonite Spiritual Directors of Eastern Canada

Approximately 30 trained spiritual directors are associates of Mennonite Spiritual Directors of Eastern Canada (MSDEC). As a resourcing partner of MCEC, we lead Days of Quiet Prayer and other contemplative retreats, organize a yearly Lenten Guided Prayer ministry for congregations, and provide prayer support for MCEC events and staff as requested

In addition to these ministries, many of our spiritual directors provide one-on-one spiritual direction sessions and lead other retreats or spiritual formation groups for individuals and congregations upon request. If you wish to become a friend of MSDEC and receive monthly updates on the various ministry options being offered by our associates, please email us. Also, check out our website ( to learn more about the gifts of each spiritual director.

Spiritual direction can help you name, trust, or deepen your experience of God as you grow in relationship with God, self, others, and the world. MSDEC follows the Guidelines for Ethical Conduct created by Spiritual Directors International.

The mission of Shalom Counselling Services is “Helping People Grow Toward Peace and Wholeness” by providing therapeutic counselling, consultation, and educational programs that integrate emotional, relational, and spiritual dimensions. The services provided promote healing, growth, and well-being for individuals, couples, families, groups, churches, and communities.

Shalom Counselling Services exists to serve the mental and emotional health needs of people in our local community. This commitment extends to individuals and families from all cultural, ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds; and does not restrict any person from seeking and receiving services at Shalom.

As a faith-based agency we honour and respect the diversity of persons, backgrounds, and beliefs within our community. As Christian professionals, Shalom counselors are receptive to conversations of faith and spirituality when initiated by the client in the counselling process. Shalom Counselling Services is committed to providing accessible and affordable counselling services, and we make every reasonable effort to ensure services are available to those unable to pay the full cost of the service. Services are provided as scope of practice and programs exist in response to presenting concerns, honouring each person’s unique life, faith experience, and spirituality.

SMARRT - Sexual Misconduct and Abuse Response Resource Team

Mennonite Area Churches are to be commended for being among the first to take a stand against sexual violence and abuse. Pastors are assisted in dealing with consequences of the pain of past abuse and how these affect people of today. Questions, consultation, and complaints are directed to the team through the Mennonite Central Committee Ontario office. We offer leadership in analysis and in healing from incidents of sexual misconduct and abuse within families, congregations, and Area Churches. We encourage leaders to refer to SMARRT early on in the process in order to prevent significant expansion of the problem and to facilitate congregations and individuals to move forward in their healing.
