staff changes

Please note the following MCEC staffing changes are effective this fall. In order to better serve and equip our congregations and pastors to Extend the Peace of Jesus Christ, we have made some adjustments to our staffing configurations.

Liz Weber

Coordinator of Youth Leaders/Administrative Assistant

Liz Weber will conclude her ministry with MCEC at the end of this year. Liz gives leadership to youth associates, ministers and sponsors in her role as Coordinator of Youth Ministries. She provides administrative support to Henry Paetkau, Area Church Minister, and to the Leadership Council. She is moving to a full-time position with Arts Abound, an arts program for children in St. Jacobs, where she has been employed on a part-time basis over the past few years. MCEC is grateful for the gifts Liz has shared over the past years in her ministry here and we bless her as she moves more fully into her new position.

Al Rempel

Regional Minister

Al Rempel will continue in his regional ministry portfolio, which has become a full time position. Al will now share his Regional Ministry expertise and resources related to HR (Human Resources) and support for pastoral transitions and reviews with all MCEC congregations. Instead of serving only a regional grouping of churches, Al’s gifts will be available across all MCEC regions. In addition, Al will also oversee the implementation of the new Informed Conversations reflection/survey tool that has been designed to help congregations reflect on who they are and how God is calling them into mission. This new regional ministry tool will support congregations as they prayerfully discern how God is calling them to extend the peace of Jesus Christ in their community.

MCEC

Regional Ministry

Regional ministry is about supporting congregational ministry and about providing pastors with grounded and wise supports so that they can be effective in their congregational roles. Given the change in Al Rempel’s regional ministry role, the current geographically-based support for pastors will now focus more on pastoral care for pastors. MCEC is in the process of calling three persons, at one-quarter time each, to be a pastoral presence in the regional clusters. Between the Regional Minister and three Regional Ministry Associates, the FTE for regional ministry now increases to 1.75 FTE from the former 1.5 FTE. The Regional Ministry Associates will attend ministerials and connect with pastors for support and pastoral care. In addition, these three Regional Ministry Associates will collaborate as a team with the Regional Minister and the Area Church Minister to resource leadership needs in MCEC.

MCEC

Mission Engagement Minister

MCEC has hired Norm Dyck for the newly configured position of Mission Engagement Minister. This role will pick up the existing ReLearning Community (RLC) contract position and oversee the ongoing development of the RLC initiative. RLC is designed to help congregations deepen their experience of being a disciple-making community that is connected to their neighbours. In addition, this role will foster missional engagement in both new and established congregations to support them in connecting with mission opportunities in the local and regional church.

Henry Paetkau

Area Church Minister

Henry Paetkau has announced that he will be retiring from the Area Church Minister role effective May 31, 2018. Please join me in expressing our deep gratitude to Henry for over five years of strong and effective ministry in this role. Henry’s depth of experience and strong, steady hand has well served both pastors and MCEC. I invite your prayers for Henry as he engages this time of transition.

Plans for hiring for this position are already underway. I would greatly appreciate your prayer support as we call a new person to ministry in this role.
