Yella 2018 Planning Under Way for May 2018 Learning Tour

MCEC and MCCO working together to offer a three-week learning tour to Israel/Palestine for young adults

“After being here for only a few days, phrases like "a city on a hill cannot be hidden" (Matt. 5:14) and "I look up to the mountains, where does my help come from?" (Ps. 121:1) make a lot more sense,” blogs Julia of her Yella experience in 2015. “We are learning to understand several Bible stories in their original context rather than only from our own perspectives.”

Planning is underway for Yella 2018. Yella, an Mennonite Central Committee Ontario and Mennonite Church Eastern Canada three-week learning tour to Israel and Palestine for young adults, has been a life-impacting experience for those who have been a part of it. “Travelling around Galilee and the Jezreel Valley, and going through the West Bank and Hebron, has lifted the veneer of this place,” writes Reid Kennel. “We saw the tourist sites and the beautiful landscapes, but now we have seen some of what lies beneath. There are so many people on both sides of this conflict who want peace but have had many barriers put up to stop them from working together.”

Yella provides an opportunity for young adults to explore questions of Christian faith and life while interacting with Christians, Jews and Muslims, encountering complex peace and conflict issues and considering the context of Jesus’ life and ministry. The trip has grown over the past 10 years to include faith partners, Anabaptist church leaders, who offer a place for young adults to connect, engage and dialogue with as they share this faith forming experience amidst the complexities of Israel/Palestine.

Applications are being received until October 31, 2017.
