- A new Bible study resource: If you were at the ACG this last weekend, you probably noticed the art exhibit created by Rockway Mennonite Collegiate. It is a large metal frame spelling out the word THINK, and each letter is filled with single-use plastic bottles. This exhibit is now up in the foyer at 50 Kent. Accompanying this exhibit is a music video featuring students with a powerful message inviting us to think about our relationship with single-use plastics. I have created a Bible study and discussion guide inspired by the art and video, and it is available for congregations to download and use in a variety of settings. I hope you find a way to make use of it.
- A new Climate Advocacy resource: On Earth Day, Mennonite Central Committee launched a new climate advocacy campaign, Climate Action for Peace. As we at MCEC work together to embody God’s reconciling ministry for all creation, using our voices to advocate for the earth is one way to do that. A group of us from MCEC participated in a Pastoral Care for Climate retreat in February, and part of that included going to speak with government representatives in Washington DC about a few bills that MCC briefed us on. It was an empowering experience! I encourage congregations to check out this campaign and look for ways to get involved. If you or your congregation are interested in exploring advocacy at the federal level, MCC has done great work to help you get started.
- A Pentecost worship resource: Later this month we celebrate Pentecost. The Holy Spirit at Pentecost was experienced through the elements of fire and wind. Here is a link to an outdoor worship outline for a forest church style Pentecost service called Praying With the Wind. I also love this earthy poem for Pentecost by Julia Baker Swann.
