MCEC is a network of congregations - an extraordinary tapestry of diversity that is intricate, complex and beautiful, says Kaye Rempel, MCEC executive council member. “My dream is that MCEC continues to find ways to build connections, seek justice and create a place of peace and belonging for all within this tapestry.”

Kaye Rempel is an executive council member and recently co-chaired the executive minister search committee.

Feeling “a little nudge” to serve, she accepted the invitation to join the council.

Originally from Berne, Indiana, Kaye graduated from Bluffton College in Ohio before embarking on a volunteer assignment at Welcome Inn in Hamilton, Ontario. Reflecting on that pivotal time, Kaye shares: “I left my home community filled with idealism and enthusiasm, ready to serve God and the world. Little did I know this experience would set the course of my life.”

At Welcome Inn, Kaye met her husband, Ron, and embarked on a path that led to a fulfilling career in social services, fueled by her passion for community and service.

As Ron and Kaye pursued their education, they lived on the grounds of AMBS in Elkhart, Indiana. Ron attended AMBS, while Kaye studied at Indiana University, working on a master’s in special education. For a course in psycho-educational testing, Kaye needed a child to take a test so that she could interpret the results.

Their neighbors on campus, Herb and Shirley Schultz, had three children, including Ann L. Schultz—now MCEC’s intentional interim executive team leader. “My chosen subject was Ann, and her parents agreed she could take one of the intelligence tests,” Kaye recalls. “While I don’t remember the specific test outcomes, I do remember determining that Ann was well above average in intelligence—a result that has stood the test of time!”

“Hope, inspiration and call are extravagant gifts of God, given to all."

Kaye has been an active member of Stirling Mennonite Church since 1973, serving in various roles, including missions, deacons, community life and church council. Beyond her local church, she has contributed to broader church organizations, serving on the boards of House of Friendship, Fairview and Parkwood Mennonite Seniors Communities, Shalom Counselling Services and Mennonite Savings and Credit Union (now Kindred Credit Union). Additionally, she served on the support services council of Mennonite Church Canada.

Before joining MCEC’s executive council, Kaye took time to speak with each council member at the time. “I was struck by the passion and care each person expressed for their work in MCEC,” she shares. Feeling “a little nudge” to serve, she accepted the invitation to join the council.

“When I look at MCEC’s strategic plan, Growing into the Future, the words that come to mind are ‘may it be so,” says Kaye. “Hope, inspiration and call are extravagant gifts of God, given to all. My hope is that we, the church, feel transformed by the love of God, inspired by the hope we find in Jesus and called to action by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
