January 20, 2025

"I’ve had the privilege of contributing, listening, and learning alongside a diverse group of passionate and knowledgeable individuals who come together out of their love for the church," says Felipe Gonzalia, executive council member. "Whether we’re navigating tough conversations, sharing a laugh, or finding common ground on deeply complex decisions, there’s always been that shared sense of commitment guiding us."

Felipe Gonzalia has been serving as an executive council member since 2021 and currently holds the role of secretary.

“I once helped maintain the physical space at MCEC so things could run smoothly. I now have the opportunity to contribute to the overall strategic direction that helps guide our larger regional church.”

He is an integral part of the leadership team at First Mennonite Church in Kitchener, where he contributes as the unofficial photographer and behind-the-scenes support, capturing key moments to ensuring the technology runs efficiently.

In addition to his work with the church, Felipe is a Media Producer at Conestoga College and runs his own video production company, helping businesses tell their stories through custom videos. His creative expertise has also benefited MCEC, where he has collaborated on various video projects over the past few years.

“My first role at MCEC was actually 20 years ago,” Felipe recalls. He was hired as custodial staff, responsible for tending the offices at 4489 King St. in Kitchener. “My main priorities were ensuring the bathrooms were cleaned, floors mopped, and that the apples falling from the tree were collected and composted,” he shares.

Felipe remains dedicated to ensuring that MCEC operates smoothly while staying true to its overall purpose and identity.

As with his custodial role, where the to-do list was never quite finished, Felipe reflects that the work at MCEC also feels ongoing, offering continuous opportunities to contribute and grow. He shares, “My hope is that as MCEC moves forward, we don’t just listen to the diverse voices of the congregations but actively involve them in shaping decisions—creating a space where we all have a role in shaping MCEC's future.”
