Covered in Glitter

- by Stephen Kennedy

glitter on hand

My daughter is 5 years old and full of life! Last year she played in a soccer league every Wednesday night, and it was very easy to spot her. She was the only player wearing their uniform and a bright pink tutu. The only thing that my daughter loves more than tutus is glitter. Glitter covers her clothes, toys, and room, which is why, no matter what I’m doing that day I seem to have a little bit of glitter on me at all times. As I sit in meetings or I’m chatting with people in coffee shops, I often wonder if they’re confused at why my cheek has a little extra sparkle in it- A little piece of my daughter’s glitter has joined my ministry life that day.

I hope I can be covered in glitter.

That little piece of glitter that shows who I spend my time with.

I hope that every day more glitter can be on my clothes, and on my face from a morning hug, and on my favorite baseball hat, because the more glitter that is on me, means the more time spent with my daughter. And the more time I spend with her, the more she rubs off on me. I want to be covered in so much glitter that everyone I meet knows undeniably that I have a daughter- A daughter that I love to be with.

May I be covered in the glitter of my loving Creator.

I have the same prayer for my relationship with God. May I spend so much time with my Creator, that God’s essence and joy rubs off on me in ways that are undeniable to all I meet. That as I go through my day, people can’t help but see a little bit of God’s essence with me- That little piece of glitter that shows who I spend my time with.

May I be covered in the glitter of my loving Creator.

And may my community take notice.

“This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other.” John 13:35
