Apr 3rd, 2024MCEC Community of Faith

  • Waterloo North Mennonite Church

Come join us & Please help to spread the word! Mennonite Action will be holding 2 important sessions during the Adult Ed hour at WNMC:

    • Sunday, April 14, 9:30-10:30 AM: Come and hear about the work of Mennonite Action from one of the coordinators, Adam Ramer. Adam lives in the U.S. and will be joining us by zoom. Mennonite Action is grassroots movement, seeking to mobilize Mennonites, Anabaptists across Northern America to use creative nonviolent actions to demand a ceasefire in Gaza, an end to the occupation of Palestine, as well as a call for peace in Israel and Palestine. This session will be available in person and by Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82750379006?pwd=dHZueVBLRktkeG5lSW9UYTBzZGMvQT09

    • Sunday, April 21, 9:30-10:30 AM: We will hear from Sam Ramer, Adam's brother, who some of you may have met at peace services and hymn sings for a ceasefire here in KW. Sam will share about his call to peacemaking and touch on the KW/Canadian Mennonite Action context. This session will be in person at a WNMC.

From Kendra Whitfield Ellis, pastor at Waterloo North Mennonite Church:

"In 2011, I went to Palestine and Israel on a Learning trip for church leaders with Mennonite Central Committee. This trip impacted me, as I witnessed the wall, check points, refugee camps, the rubble of Palestinian homes, the water barrels on roofs in the West Bank, and other sights and signs of occupation. Like many of you, my heart is heavy and breaking and the words and work of Mennonite Action resonates deeply for me.

We are Mennonites and Anabaptists, rooted in values that our cultural or spiritual ancestors passed down: peace, justice, community, mutual aid, and service. We know that these shared values fly higher than any nation’s flag. We refuse to turn a blind eye to violence and oppression no matter who is perpetrating it—even, and especially, our own governments" (www.mennoniteaction.org).

I am honored to be a part of the Mennonite Action Pastoral Team. I am so inspired by the young adults and adults leading this movement, young adults like you, that are calling us into meaningful peace actions, hymn sings for ceasefire, and calling on our local and federal government to Send Aid, Not Bombs!"
