Join the MCEC Wheat and Weeds Challenge!!

Do we remember why we gather for worship as a faith community? Do we remember why we gather for mission? Join the Wheat and Weeds Challenge. Join MCEC colleagues for an engaging, challenging and heartfelt conversation.

There are two parts to the Wheat and Weeds Challenge.

  1. book cover with drawing of a woman throwing out a baby with the bathwaterRead Robert J. (Jack) Suderman's short book, The Baby and the Bathwater: Aspirations and Reality in the Life of the Church, and grapple again with the vocational question of your call as to why you are in ministry. We think that before we can lead others into their “why,” we first need to answer the question for ourselves.

You can access The Baby and the Bathwater through Commonword where you can borrow, buy, request a free pastor copy or even download this 97-page book. We encourage you to request a free pastor copy so that you can read, share and reference it into the future.

As you read the book, consider these two questions…
    1. Are you an agent of God’s action through the church as described?  If so what inspires you and describes your reason for why you do what you do?
    2. Where are the challenges you encounter as you embrace this Biblical vision for the church as described?  If you disagree with the premise, what are your reasons for that?
