We welcome all who are interested in learning, listening and engaging in meaningful conversation.
The land remembers.
For centuries, the Church in Canada has benefited from the dispossession of Indigenous lands, cultures, and sovereignty. Many of us carry a heavy awareness of this history, including the painful legacy of residential schools, yet feel stuck, unsure of what faithful action looks like now.
Jesus did not invite his followers into symbolic reconciliation or polite lament, but into a way of life that returns what was taken, heals what was broken, and restores right relationship with our neighbors and the land itself. Walking the Jesus way requires moving beyond empty gestures into true metanoia, turning our words into real-world restoration.
In Mend: An Invitation from Jesus to Return to Land-based Repair, Jodi Spargur shows that land-based repair is central to our calling as disciples. Join us for an interactive 2-hour session over lunch with time for conversation and Q&A as we examine our history, unpack fresh biblical frameworks for discipleship, and discern concrete steps for our own faith community.
We Will Explore Together:
- Discipleship & Faithfulness: Examining how land-based repair aligns directly with walking the Jesus way in real, practical accountability.
- The Memory of the Land: Tracing how colonial Christianity traded an ancient posture of repent and repair for forgive and forget, and naming our local history.
- Scripture Re-Examined: Looking at stories like Zacchaeus (Luke 19) to see how repair functions as a core mark of discipleship rather than mere private repentance.
- Becoming Guests, Not Hosts: Shifting our posture from entitlement and ownership to host-guest accountability with local Indigenous neighbors.
This will also have a livestream available. Please register for link.
