Welcome to MCEC ACG 2025!

What is Mennonite Church Eastern Canada (MCEC)? In the past few months I’ve learned that some of us think of MCEC as an office space, or as a group of resource people or even some kind of authoritative body. I can understand how those ideas have developed, but I see MCEC as something a bit different.

MCEC is a network of Anabaptist faith communities with a shared mission, shared values and a shared theological orientation. While our churches are different in many ways, MCEC is where we share the work of supporting each other in navigating change, developing leaders, intergenerational discipleship, embracing diversity and seeking peace and justice.

This year we are reminding each other that we are called to action by the power of the Holy Spirit. This must be more than just a catchy theme for us.

The calling and empowering work of the Holy Spirit opens new pathways. It means that there is something dynamic and unpredictable about our communities. The Spirit is nothing less than God’s comforting and enlivening presence.

We will gather online to conduct key aspects of our shared work together. This is an efficient and accessible way to conduct an annual meeting.

However, it is important for us to be physically present to each other. This year the opportunity for us to do this is in conjunction with the gathering of our Mennonite siblings from across Canada on July 2-5 at Mennonite Church Gathering 2025. I hope each of our congregations will find a way to be involved in that upcoming gathering.
